Jennifer "Addie" Schafer has served students and families as a long-term substitute within Loudoun County Public Schools, and fondly recalls watching her grandmother teach within the county when Addie was a child. Her grandmother's inspiration sparked Addie to acquire her M.Ed. in Elementary Education, which she holds in conjunction with a B.A. in English and a B.A. in Theatre. Ms. Schafer was selected to receive a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship grant. While in Malaysia, she spearheaded units of study utilizing the STEAM-PBL model of instruction. She carved a way to share her theatre expertise by getting involved in Drama Kids International where drama is used to teach socialization skills. In her interview, Addie emphasized her belief in students having a sense of community, multiple intelligences being honored, as well as the importance of modeling expectations.
