Number of Half-Day and Full-Day Kindergarten Classes by School (updated 8/18/16)

Important Information - 8/16/16

Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) is holding a division-wide lottery for 62 full-day kindergarten (FDK) seats.

These seats are located at four elementary schools: Forest Grove (13); Sterling (seven); Sugarland (28) and Sully (14).
Parents who participate in this lottery must be willing to provide transportation for their child to the FDK site. A student’s name may be entered for one or more school lotteries.
Interested parents need to complete this form (for English please click here, for Spanish please click here), indicate which schools they wish their child to attend and return the form to their home school office by noon Monday, August 22nd. These forms will be date- and time-stamped as they are received by the school to ensure the form was received by the deadline.
By 3 p.m. Monday, school attendance secretaries will verify that each student applying for the lottery is registered as an LCPS student. A list of student names will be created for every FDK site requested.
The LCPS Office of Elementary Education will conduct a lottery for every universal FDK school with available space at 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 23rd in Room 100A of the LCPS Administrative Offices in Ashburn. The lottery drawing will be open to the public.
The following method will be used to randomly select students for inclusion in the FDK program.

  • Individual student names will be placed on equal-sized strips of paper.
  • The strips will be placed in a container identified by site.
  • Names will be drawn from the container.
  • Name strips will be taped to a sequentially-numbered chart in order of drawing.
  • All names submitted will be drawn and posted regardless of the number of lottery seats available.

Parents will not have to be present during the drawing in order for their child to be selected and their seat held.  Immediately following the drawing, the Office of Elementary Education will send notification emails informing parents of their child’s selection to participate in the FDK program at a school outside their home attendance zone. Included in the text of the email will be a requirement that the parent reply with either “I accept” or “I decline” by 5 p.m. Wednesday, August 24th.

Any FDK seat that is declined will be filled with the next student who appears on the sequentially-numbered list.
Parents of multiples (twins, triplets, etc.) or parents of two kindergarten-age children will be notified that each child’s name will be selected individually and these parents should consider the possible outcome if one child is selected and the other child is not.
